The music video El Mentiroso is directed by Cuban
Alejandro Pérez and recorded in Cuba. The play is a collaboration between Gente de Zona and the Colombian singer Silvestre Dangond. The music video has already reached more than three million views on YouTube.
The song is a fusion of mainstream Latin music with the Colombian music genre Vallenato.
This is the fourth time Alejandro Pérez is directing for the Cuban duo Gente de Zona. Previous recordings under his leadership include hits such as La Gozadera, Bailando with Descemer Bueno and Enrique Iglesias, and in Traidora. Pérez was also behind the latest video of Spanish Enrique Iglesias Después Que Te Perdí.
Gente de Zona says they hope El Mentiroso will be a success and if they are lucky, the numbers also continue to grow. Three million views over a week is not reach, but still far from big hits like Bailando which today has over two thousand million views.
The duo, which prepares a concert tour in the US, Latin America and Europe, is considered today’s “Ambassador of Cuban Music around the World”, much as a result of the Urban and Latin genre’s boom in global context.
The duo, composed by Randy Malcom and Alexander Delgado, has recently collaborated with international artists such as Marc Anthony, Laura Pausini, Thalia and Enrique Iglesias. The duo’s success is probably a relapse of steady loyalty to a music style that was previously considered vulgar, but which has gradually gained ground in the music industry worldwide.
With support from Cuban bands such as La Charanga Habanera and Los Tres de La Habana, Gente de Zona has managed to succeed, despite criticism and the music genre gradually becoming more mainstream in Cuba.
